The Project Services Division project manages and delivers the construction, installation and renewal of multi-disciplinary contracts including, permanent way, signalling, communications, mechanical and electrical equipment, power systems and civil engineering.

Following a policy of steady sustainable growth, the Division has grown from £5 million to over £40 million in the space of five years and the division has secured several major medium term investment projects. In signalling, these projects include: the high profile TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) design and installation contracts for Scotland and the North West which are due to run until December 2003.

The power and overhead line business stream could be the fastest growing sector for First Engineering over the next three to five years. It is this potential which has led to the design and construction of the UK's first overhead line specialist training school. There are many electrical companies who can deliver power distribution services, but the number with critical expertise to carry out work in the railway environment is limited. What sets First Engineering apart is the ability to do this work in the railway environment, where expertise on safety and operational issues of power supplies throughout the network is essential.
