DOCKLANDS DEVELOPMENT

In common with dock areas throughout the country, Ipswich had become increasingly run-down in the years since the war even though the port itself remained active. In more recent years, the area surrounding the dock has begun to see something of a revival. This revival has been accelerated in the last two years, with the renovation of old maltings buildings, the building of new waterside apartments and plans for a number of shops, bars and restaurants.

Jackson Construction has just been given the opportunity to take part in this exciting restoration, having been awarded the contract to build a new £11.5m apartment block for Redrow Homes. This is an extremely interesting development, comprising 113 apartments and featuring an unusual German-designed 'stacked' parking system. Something of an engineering masterpiece, the system makes optimum use of the space available and, for this reason, has been used previously by Redrow in some of their London developments.
Town centre residential accommodation has begun to feature quite strongly in Jackson Construction's order book in recent months, other examples being another smaller development in the Ipswich dock region for Redrow and a £2.5m 4-storey block of flats in the heart of Ipswich for Gracemore Homes.
In addition, in line with the company's strategy to increase its involvement in property development, plans are being drawn up to develop St Georges House, a 1960's-built parade of shops, owned by Jackson for a number of years, to include residential as well as retail use.

GOING FOR GOLD

Jackson Construction has been awarded a RoSPA Bronze Award for its safety performance during 2001. This award recognises the company's safety performance during the year and is a credit to everyone within Jackson Construction for the time and effort put into the safety management. The company's goal is to achieve a gold award over the next few years and there is every confidence, that with the continued support and effort of staff, that goal is certainly achievable.
