Over five years ago, it was First Engineering who proposed to Railtrack that the success of the UK railway network would be dependent upon the success of alliance agreements. As such, in 1999, the company was the first to embark on the type of alliance that the industry now sees as the only way forward to achieve improved performance and safety, greater efficiency and increased speed of innovation and investment.
First Engineering is a major player in alliance working in the rail industry and last year the company received the "Achievement of the Year" award at the National Rail Awards for joint work with other industry partners in Scotland. The previous year, at the same awards, the company was awarded "Best Maintenance Operator of the Year".
Also, In recognition of its work on its environmental management system, First Engineering received the Railtrack Chairman's Environmental Award in 1999.
