PILOT SCHEME FOR ATWS
PILOT SCHEME FOR ATWS

First Engineering, in conjunction with Railtrack and ISS (Infrastructure Safety Services) last year commissioned the first pilot site for ATWS. ATWS was first considered for use in 1995. The electronic system provides protection at sites that would conventionally be protected by lookouts. It also offers potential for work to be undertaken where previously restrictions, such as the nature or location of the work site, may have prevented it taking place. Due to the success of the two pilot worksites at Elderslie in Scotland, First Engineering, together with ISS, has been asked to roll out the system in Scotland and at a number of sites throughout England.
