Notes:
The increase in energy used is due to:

• Incomplete records from the previous period
• Flexible working practices extending the opening hours of buildings in Reading

Substantial savings have been made as part of a pro-active eco-efficiency programme. Savings in excess of £100,000 have been realised from initiatives such as switching off computers at buildings in Reading.

Other savings have been generated from:

• Efficient Building Management Systems
• Energy saving lamps
• Security guards ensuring lights and equipment are switched off when offices are empty.

Actions for 2002

• To harmonise the local targets and set a target for electricity reductions across all Prudential occupied offices in the UK, and make this target a MACC2 commitment
