The CO2 figures were calculated using DEFRA average rates for carbon dioxide production for the three main modes of travel and energy utilising electricity, gas and oil.

The increase over the period relates to:

• Energy for all buildings which were not included in our first estimate
• Consequences of extended opening hours at Reading offices

Actions for 2002

• Confirm the accuracy of the travel collection process in order to set a base line total for future targets
• Develop a carbon management strategy for both occupied and investment properties, and examine the possibilities for renewable energy
