AFU focuses on the French SME market and targets particular market sectors where it believes that its specialist underwriting and pricing skills have the greatest potential to generate market share and sustainable underwriting profits. Within these markets AFU is a significant player and where necessary competes directly with the larger domestic, international and Lloyd’s players.

As a new division of the Group, the chart below sets out the expected mix of the estimated €40 million business handled by AFU alongside the proportions underwritten by Amlin for 2009.

2009 premium estimates

Fire insurance is AFU’s largest class of business covering property damage and business interruption either on a lead basis or via co-insurance arrangements. Lead coverage focuses on complex and hazardous risks such as paper recycling, plastics, biomedical and food storage with co-insurance offering a share of larger industrial and commercial risks at the Bureau Central de Repartition.

Leisure insurance is a comprehensive insurance package to establishments with dance floors covering fire, lightning and associated risks together with electrical damage, water damage, storm, tempest, hail and snow. Coverage is also provided for building owners (or syndicates) who are non-occupants.

Transport is predominantly marine risks. Stock and transit provides worldwide cover from supply to delivery. Coverage is also given for loss or damage to goods entrusted to marine, terrestrial or air conveyors and can be arranged to include contractual responsibility and/or professional liability of transport operators.

Jewellers business includes insurance for jewellers’ stock either held on the premises or at exhibitions, damage to property held at art galleries and theft or damage to private owners’ high value contents.

Professional liability provides cover to insurance intermediaries, financial advisors and real estate agents. General Liability acts as either complementary cover to other lines of business or as stand alone cover.
