The business – an introduction

Our operating structure

The Group operates through Syndicate 2001 at Lloyd’s and Amlin Bermuda. Lloyd’s is the largest specialty insurance and reinsurance market in the world and Bermuda is another major reinsurance centre.

During 2008, a review was conducted of the Group’s organisational structure with the objective of identifying the most appropriate organisation for the Group going forward, not only in terms of sustaining and developing existing business, but also to facilitate future strategic growth plans.

The previous structure had operated successfully for a number of years but in the context of the Group’s prospective development it had limited scalability. This was largely due to insufficient separation of Group executive management and individual business units.

The new structure is shown in the diagram adjacent. The principal changes are: – The formation of a Group Executive, distinct from the divisional management. – The creation of Amlin London as a division. – Within Amlin London, the separation of the Non-marine division into Reinsurance and Property & Casualty business units, operating alongside the Marine and Aviation business units. – The creation of Anglo French Underwriters as a division following its acquisition in November 2008.
