This first annual Sustainable Development Report covers Petra Diamond's (Petra's) impact and initiatives in the social, economic and environmental areas of society, and covers the 2009 financial year, from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009. The report covers those issues that are deemed to be most material to the Group and illustrates its performance through case studies.
This web-based report covers those operations managed by the Company – Cullinan, Koffiefontein, Kimberley Underground, Helam, Sedibeng and Star mines in South Africa, and the Williamson mine in Tanzania. It should be read in conjunction with the Annual Report (PDF - 4.3MB) produced by the Company for the same reporting period.
Petra has adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines as the basis for its sustainable development reporting and has, in this first report, self-declared a C level of reporting – see the GRI index. In addition, Petra has reported on its compliance with the Mining Charter, as prescribed by the South African Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, No 28 of 2002 – see the Mining Charter index.
