Amersham International introduced the Amertec
technetium 99 generator replacing earlier models. The generator
is vital in nuclear medicine departments throughout the world
as the source of precise amounts of radioactivity, required
as the active component of diagnostic agents such as Ceretec,
used in the diagnosis of brain disease. Pictured awaiting
despatch, are rows of the upgraded Amertec II
generator which won a 1987 Queen's Award and is still in use
today.
