Tatcher's cartoon

On 17 February, Amersham International became the first company to be privatised under the Thatcher government. Its shares were floated on the London Stock Exchange on 24 February, offered at 142p. The issue was 24.6 times oversubscribed and the price rocketed 48p in seconds, increasing the company's value from £71m to £95m.
