Community – Bermuda

Philanthropy is an important part of corporate life in Bermuda. In 2008, Amlin Bermuda donated US$20,000 towards a two-year individual college sponsorship under the Association of Bermuda International Companies Education Awards (ABICEA). Several Amlin employees were scholarship recipients themselves and participate in the ABICEA mentor programme in support of Bermudian students.

In early 2008, the newly-formed Charities Committee worked with the Center on Philanthropy to establish a strategy for developing meaningful partnerships with local charities.

An employee survey established that Amlin Bermuda wanted to partner charities which support youth development, sports, arts and housing the elderly. In 2008 Amlin Bermuda initiated such partnerships with YouthNet (an in-school mentoring programme), the Youth Athletic Organization (supporting junior baseball) and the Women’s Resource Center (counselling, legal and practical support to victims of domestic violence). In each case, grants are supplemented with the practical assistance of Amlin Bermuda employees.

An additional charitable donation was made to the School for the Performance Arts to support a 22-week theatre programme and Amlin also supported an Art Auction for the Coalition for the Protection of Children, the Red Cross Ball and the Bermuda Film Festival.
