Amersham International launches ThermoSequenase™ DNA sequencing enzyme and DYEnamic™ ET primer sequencing kits. The coupling of these technologies, which significantly improved the quality and sensitivity of automated DNA sequencing, was integral to the later success of the MegaBACE DNA Analysis System and the human genome project. Amersham International had become recognised as the innovator in DNA sequencing following its 1993 acquisition of United States Biochemical in Cleveland, Ohio, the leader in manual sequencing with its product Sequenase™ DNA polymerase.

Also launched this year was the Scintillation Proximity Assay™ technology for drug screening.
