Petra is a leading supplier of rough diamonds. A number of acquisitions have established Petra as one of the world’s largest independent diamond groups by resources, with a total resource base of 262 million carats. Petra’s annual production rose fivefold in the year to June 2009 to over one million carats and the Company’s objective is to continue to increase supply and develop its stature as a world-class diamond group.
- In South Africa, Petra has interests in five producing mines – Cullinan, Koffiefontein, Helam, Sedibeng and Star – and has also agreed to acquire, from De Beers, the Kimberley Underground mines.
- In Tanzania, Petra has an interest in the Williamson mine.

1. South Africa
Cullinan (37% interest)
- Underground kimberlite pipe mine, currently at depth of 747 metres
- World’s second largest resource of 204.6 million carats (including tailings)
- Production ramp up to over 1 million carats per annum in FY 2010
- 10-year expansion plan to gradually increase annual production to 2.6 million carats
- Employed 918 people (835 employees and 83 contractors) in 2009

Koffiefontein (70% interest)
- Underground kimberlite pipe mine currently at depth of 490 metres
- Resource of 6.0 million carats
- Five-year plan to increase production to in excess of 110,000 carats
- Employed 464 people (464 employees, no contractors) in 2009
- Partner: BEE entity Re-Teng Diamonds (Pty) Ltd (30%)
- One of the world’s top kimberlite diamond mines by average value per carat - produces exceptional white and coloured diamonds, particularly pinks
Kimberley Underground (74% interest once acquisition completes)
- Asset comprises three kimberlite pipes in close proximity: Bultfontein, Dutoitspan and Wesselton
- Historic source of large diamonds and fancy yellows
- Underground kimberlite mines between 845 metres and 995 metres deep
- Resource of 6.9 million carats
- Employed 375 people (375 employees, no contractors) in 2009
- Initial production of approx. 100,000 carats in the first full year, increasing to 180,000 carats in the second year
Fissure mines – Sedibeng (74.5% interest, Helam and Star (100%):
- Underground kimberlite fissure mines between 600 and 750 metres deep
- Petra is world leader in specialist underground kimberlite fissure mining
- Resource of 4.7 million carats
- Employed 1,154 people (1,149 employees, 5 contractors) in 2009
- Plan to take production to in excess of 120,000 carats per annum
- Partner in Sedibeng (Sedibeng Mining (Pty) Ltd and Bokone Properties (Pty) Ltd (25.5%)
- Regularly produce exceptional white diamonds
2. Tanzania
Williamson (75% interest)
- World’s largest economic kimberlite by surface area at 146 hectares in size
- Opencast operation at 90 metres (deepest point)
- Major resource of 40 million carats
- Employed 1,146 people (622 employees, 524 contractors) in 2009
- Feasibility study currently underway – plan to build up operation to 600,000 carats per annum
- Partner: Government of the United Republic of Tanzania (25%)
